i bought a sectional with ottoman from the room place in october of 2007. before thanksgiving the matierial of the ottoman had begun to tear form just using it to rest our feet on. i knew when i bought the furniture that it was not the greatest but to tear in the first two months we had it! i called the costumer sevice number and harlem furniture sent someone out to look at it. he took pictures and said, "well i can't fix that." two weeks later they finally called back and said that they would niether replace or refund our $200 for the ottoman because we ,"abused it." how would they know, believe me it was not abused in anyway. i am still working on it but to no avail, no one wants to help me from the company. as a customer i have never been treated as poorly as i have with this company. my advice is simple, don't ever buy harlem furniture's crap. | 1. Written by Susan, on 14-09-2009 17:21 The Room Place, previously Harlem Furniture customer service is horrible and incompetent. I purchased a $4,000 sectional couch, delivery was last Thursday and set-up was incomplete. They neglected to hook the pieces on the rail so when you sit down the pieces move. They are too heavy for me to do by myself, so I called customer service within an hour of delivery and was told to hold on while she called the driver. She came back to the phone with an attitude saying the driver said I told him not to hook it up that I was going to move it later. Move it, the thing is a monster and there is NO where else to move it to! After arguing with me she said they would come back today and hook it up, after waiting all day they never showed up!! I called and they said I was not on the schedule, and told me to hold on. I was on hold for 30 minutes and finally hung up and called the store. I'm hoping the salesman can get them to complete the job, I will post later with the results. I still need bedroom furniture, dining room and a kitchen set, you would think the company would want the repeat business especially in this economic climate. If anybody knows of a "reputable" furniture store in the Chicago area please let me know. |
2. Written by CALL BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU, on 09-09-2009 22:42 We all need to make sure we file with the BBB. My wife and I bought a ten piece bedroom set from Harlem. The sales person told us about a promotion where you get zero interest for two years if you finance it through them. Needless to say I got my first bill with an interest rate of 10.99% finance charge so I called the store to inquire about why I was being charged. They informed me that it was not their problem and that I have to call their finance company. I called the finance company and they said it was Harlem's fault and they would have to be the one to fix the problem by giving me a refund on the bedroom set and then recharge it properly. I battled with Harlems for a period of eight months with even calling the main headquarters. I got so frustrated that I just paid the bill entirely and I will never go back to the store. Less than a year after buying the bedroom set one of the legs fell off the night stand and we had to fix it ourself even after buying the extended warranty. Please take the warning serious and stay away from Harlems.

5. Written by wulf ward, on 24-08-2009 17:06 I bought a lot of furniture over the years from Harlem. Because I have dogs, it was mostly leather sofas and chairs. It's medium priced stuff. On my last purchase I was talked into a extended warranty. It added about 15% to the total cost. Now the furniture is falling apart and my warranty covers nothing. I am getting a lot of double-talk, but no service. Harlem sure has lost a good customer in me and I will put out the word, be careful in what the sales people tell you and read the small print. Better yet, buy someplace else.
6. Written by Ron, on 02-06-2009 16:38 We purchased a leather sectional from The Room Place. Shortly after we bought the sectional, the automatic recliner on one side of the sofa was banging as you reclined it. We had a call in and was told someone will take a look at it. They said it was a bent frame. Well they said that they will fix it with new parts. The cost was over $3,000, and it should be replaced! Of course this was 3 months ago, and still no repairs done. The leather has also sagged terribly. They won't do anything for this. This is a new sectional about 6 months old. I will never ever shop there again, The place ***!
7. Written by Robyn Johnson, on 27-01-2009 17:00 I am so upset. We purchased a sectional from Harlem and the extended 5 yr. warranty. The coach is tearing away at the seams. Not just one of the three pieces, but all of them. They are refusing to stand behind their merchandise. What can we do as a group to to stop such incompetence!!! HELP

10. Written by Rob, on 03-07-2008 14:20 I bought a Leather coach, love seat chair an ottaman for the Room Place in the Chicago Suburbs and included was a 5 year warrenty. after 2 years the leather on the coach is wearing off on the seams and the coach is sagging. After inspecting under neath I discovered there was supposed to be a leg in the middle which was never delievered with the furiture. They said they would send one but the damage is done. As for the wear it isn't covered under the 5 year warrenty. Only if it is cut burned or other damage but now wear. I live alone with no pets. I bought leather because I thought it would last. Friends of mine that bought one 20 years ago that have 2 kids and 2 dogs. There couch still looks new so why would mine show so much wear in 2 years. Long story short I will never ever buy from Harlem (the Room Place) ever again. There furniture is not quality furniture at all.
